The meaning that adults have in biology refers to an animal capable of reproducing. Adult is a term used in the context of human beings to refer to the legal and social aspects. As opposed to someone not considered an adult or "minor", the legal adult has attained majority, that makes them independent, capable, and responsible. An adult who is legally mature can be described as a major. The age of 18 is the legal adult age, but the definition of adulthood can vary according to the nation, lawful rights or psychological development.
